Common problems
Ortho Emergencies :
Lost a separator:
If a spacer has fallen out, call during office hours to schedule an appointment to come in.
Wire poking:
Using orthodontic wax in the area of the wire will provide temporary relief until you can be seen. If the poking continues to cause discomfort and you can’t get in to see us right away, you can use a pair of clean nail clippers to carefully cut the end of the wire. Be careful not to damage any other parts of your braces. If the pain persists or if you need further assistance, feel free to call us.
Wire out of bracket/band or broken:
If it is causing pain, call our office immediately. If the discomfort is minimal and manageable, you can schedule an appointment during our office hours as soon as possible.
Expander is loose:
If the expander is loose and/or causing pain, stop turning and call our office immediately.
Broken/ loose bracket:
If bracket is loose, but is not causing discomfort to the patient, please wait until office hours to call. It is important that you keep the bracket for us to place it back.
